To help celebrate 20 years of National Poetry Month, Sandy will once again host the Favourite Poems event at the Pender Island Public Library.
April 8, 2 – 4 pm.
Open to all – come to read your favourite poem, written by someone other than yourself, in 5 minutes or less – or just come along to listen.
Sandy will host a reading by Renee Sarojini Saklikar at Talisman Books and Gallery on Pender Island on June 28. Renee will be reading from her latest book, Listening to the Bees (co-authored with Mark Winston). Details to come.
To schedule a reading, please send Sandy an email via the Contact page.
For the past 30 years Sandy has been doing readings at numerous venues, including: Planet Earth Poetry (Victoria, BC), the Upper Canada Writers’ Workshop (Kingston, Ont.), the Reading Railroad (Vancouver, BC), the Vancouver Fringe Festival, Poetry Matters and Lunch Poems (two readings programs at Simon Fraser University), Sechelt Writers’ Festival, Shawnigan Lake Writers’ Festival, Women in View (Vancouver, BC), Word on the Street (Vancouver, BC), the Vancouver Art Gallery, the BC Ferries, and both Toronto and Vancouver Mayworks Festivals.
In addition to traditional readings, she often perform herpoems in scripted shows that intersperse various songs and/or poems based on images or themes they have in common, so each piece echoes the one before and also opens a door to the next (with musicians such as Fraser Union, Aya, and the Euphoniously Feminist Non-Performing Quintet, and poets, including Kate Braid, Barbara Nickel, Renée Sarojini Saklikar, Zoe Landale, Marlene Cookshaw, Mitchell Parry and Rob Taylor).
She also scripts some of her solo readings, inviting members of the audience to participate in the event by reading the work of other poets.
