Acrylic and paper on slim canvas; 16" x 16", framed
I painted Torn when I was having trouble making a choice about something. I can’t recall now what that something was, but for me the sense of indecision is reflected both in the mixed media I used (torn shards of paper painted into the colours) and in the contrast created by depicting water within an otherwise abstract design. I also see a figure fleeing (just above the water), burdened with a plank straddling the shoulders. (Not everyone sees this, though. To me, that’s one of the delights of abstract works: everyone responds/sees differently.)
