I wanted Free Fall to reflect acceptance of my situation, so decided on a lighthearted composition of cascading circles and curves. But when I found myself inserting sharp edges and triangles, I realized I was feeling more trepidation than I’d been willing to admit. I like this ambiguity, how the painting can contain seemingly contradictory meanings and still be true.
