When I started this painting, I was mostly curious about how a series of cascading circles and curves in warm colours against a sky blue might look. As I worked, the title Free Fall came to mind. As I thought about that title, I realized that even though I am feeling great, largely unencumbered by chemo side effects – always, at the back of my mind, is the knowledge that this won’t last. At some point, possibly years away, things will change, most likely for the worst. Possibly that’s why, apart from simply wanting more variety in shapes, I chose to add those triangles. Still, the painting has a carefree feel to it, which reflects my overall attitude toward living with cancer these days.
